Ethan Hawke had a lot to say about John Huston's film at a recent screening of Wildcat—including some harsh criticism of the director, whom he considers a hero.
Yeah, I can't even take credit for that. As soon as he said that line (and the audience laughed in response), I knew it had to be the lede. Thank you so much for reading the piece!
I was just listening to a podcast about this. They were discussing how we got lots of really dark films during the Iraq War, peaking in 2007 with There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, Michael Clayton, etc. And then audiences said "We need something lighter now please," and in 2008 we got Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. Maybe now that the MCU run is winding down there's room for the dark stuff to come back?
Perhaps- there's no shortage of stories in a darker vein that could be adapted if that's the case.
Okay, excellent opening line for the Garden and Gun piece 😂 Ethan Hawke is such a character

I think she hasn't gotten more action in Hollywood because of the general tone of most of her stories. They prefer lightness and she's DARK!
