One of Cronenberg's oft-ignored great films, The Dead Zone provides three stories in one thanks to an expertly structured screenplay...all in just 103 minutes.
Great write up. My dad, who snuck on the set of Lethal Weapon 3, actually met Boam and exchanged phone numbers (Long story). They had a few conversations about screenwriting while my dad was finishing up college. When Boam died my father received his crew jacket from Lethal Weapon 3.
While Dead Zone is rarely mentioned by King’s readers as a favorite of his novels, King himself has said in interviews and speeches that it’s the best-plotted of his novels, so there’s that.
Ok, first of all my name is Stephen Smith, and yes I've had to live with all the 'sure it is, let's see some ID' my whole life. Don't kick us when we're down. Co-winkle-dinkally I once worked with a guy named Peter Jones, you can imagine. The whole seeing the future thing is a little hard, because it assumes one event changes it so if that was the case then the point in time when Smith see's a persons future is in fact only that one point in time. If he touched him another day, that history would have changed and so on, or in fact there are multiple time lines, even infinite times lines, for every action, so to speak, quantum mechanics or the Multiverse to keep it Marvel simple. I need to stop here as my eyes are starting to cross, but I agree the movie is great, but everyone knows Shawshank and Green Mile and of course the name the worst Stephen King movie (you can have more than one choice). Now if someone could just explain Donnie Darko to me....
Yeah, whenever clairvoyance and time travel and other kinds of quantum mechanics things enter a story, I immediately stop trying to do the math and start just trying to enjoy the ride. Thankfully that's easy to do here!
The Dead Zone would be a banger for pretty much any other writer, but for King it is mid tier. I hadn’t heard about Wampler yet. That is terrible news. I loved The Kingcast.
Such a good podcast. I'm thankful they had a few more already recorded and several episodes of a new project too. And it sounds like they're gonna release some of the Patreon subscriber episodes in the near future as well. Gonna miss his voice once it's finally gone though.
One of the best filmmakers to have come out of anywhere! I think this film shows that he's not just a one-trick pony and he can do more than body horror when he chooses to.

What! That's amazing. I hope that jacket fits you well so you can carry on the tradition.

Oh I didn't realize that. If it's anything like the screenplay's structure, I'd say he has a point!

Cronenberg is one of the best filmmakers to have come out of Canada. His personal style and touch have always been extremely unique.
