S1m0ne has seen a small resurgence in the wake of recent advances in AI and last summer’s SAG-AFTRA negotiations pertaining to it. 22 years since the film’s premiere, we’re on the eve of this story becoming a reality.
I remember seeing this when it came out. Didn't leave much of an impression, but I'll revisit it. This was peak late-career Pacino, so I think we all expected more. Yet I did enjoy it much more than Her, which I thought was slow and pretentious.
I feel like Pacino was miscast! Maybe the satire would’ve landed better if they’d cast someone with more comedic chops. Or even someone without the baggage of an esteemed dramatic career.
Oooooh really enjoyed this. I’d take that sloppy human art any day, as well. There are tons of friends of mine in the writing world that are terrified of losing their jobs to this so the reality is very close to home.
Apparently, it's okay to have artificially created people (or animals) star in animated films, but creating artificial actors to replace the ones in live films is not...
I think there’s a world of difference between having a motion-captured CGI character or even a fully animated one that is still performed by a flesh and blood human and one that is completely artificial. Regarding animals, I would imagine that comes down to practicality, but also the safety and well-being of the animals.

Hmm, I really have to watch this again.
There are worse ways to spend a few hours.

(I'm one of them!)
Ooooooof.
