Filmspotting, now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long, long time. The first podcast I ever subscribed to, waaaaay back in 2005 when it was still Cinecast.
This is my favorite movie! I like that you zoomed in on just a couple elements to point out how well they worked. There's much, much more that can be examined, teasing out the details, highlighting themes and ideas, and just enjoying the entire experience. This movie is so rich, full of hilarious lines and performances and bravura style. But it's also poignant in the way it treats the characters' emotions seriously. It always gives me plenty to think about.
Absolutely agreed. I've seen it a few times now and I find new things to love about it with every viewing. It'd be almost any other filmmakers' pinnacle, but these guys happened to make Fargo and No Country For Old Men.
I wonder what it must've been like to be a cinephile in the 80s, seeing Blood Simple and then getting something completely different for a sophomore effort. They can really do it all.

They might be the first film podcast period! I haven't listened in years but I do still follow those guys on Letterboxd.

I have watched every Coen Bros movie, and this still remains one of their top 5 best.
Totally agree. It's my favorite comedy of theirs after a couple recent rewatches.
One of the most perfect and quotable movies ever made!
Truly! Sometimes I can't believe this is the Coens' second film. Seems unfair.
Clearly this film employs many of the narrative and technological elements that the Coens would continue to use in their later projects.

Exactly. Their excellent voice-overs might be the reason why most others don't work for me.
