Many years ago, when most of my friends and I were graduating college and getting jobs (or, in my case, going to graduate school to avoid getting a job), one of my buddies began his career by taking a low-level job at the Zaxby’s corporate office.
The ironic thing- even though Alec Baldwin’s character is a top tier asshole, he’s still 100% right! Always Be Closing is every good salesman’s mantra, like a metronome in his brain!
It's unremarkable, honestly. A mid-tier fast-food chicken restaurant mostly here in the Southeast. Certainly not the kind of establishment that needs to always be closing!
I saw a lot of similarity between Jack Lemon's, Sheldon 'The Machine" Levine and Paul Brennan in Salesman. Two used to be good at this game men, who have been used up, by others and themselves and now find themselves at a critical juncture in their lives. Mamet I think must have seen Salesman at one time an drawn inspiration from it as well as his personal experiences.
Stephen, that is an excellent observation that I hadn't thought of before. I just saw Salesman for the first time last year. I bet you're right that Mamet drew inspiration from it!

It's a good mantra as long as it's not taken too far! Thankfully this is a film about guys who take things too far.
People love that speech unironically as a motivator. I do! I have a friend who can recite the entire thing from memory.
I love that monologue too, but I can never hear it without thinking about Zaxby's now. 😂
Don’t know Zaxby.

What a dreary depressing movie. None worse.
I love it! I do like the stage play better though.
