We are totally still doing the paper license thing. Felt like a total idiot showing it to get into GWAR. It's like saying "Memaw Leghorn signed my permission slip, can I come in?"

Ha! I kinda can't believe we're still doing paper licenses. Nobody respects those things!

A last sentence to rule them all. Well done, friend. I like to think Alabamians reclaimed Forrest like Chappell and the gays have reclaimed the c word. It's ours, goddammit. You can't make fun of us if we make the joke first.

Thank you, comrade. 💙 Yeah, Bama fans seem to be fine with embracing the "Gumps" label at least!

Now everyone drives a pickup, so you may have been ahead of the curve, kind of. Deliverance is a much worse take on the south than Gump. I always viewed Forrest Gump as a man who has eventful things happen around him while he remains in a blissful state of innocence. while being the catalyst that makes things happen. Good call on Deliverance. Thankfully nobody's ever told me to squeal like a pig!

Poor Ned Beatty. I wonder how many people yelled that at him over his career. Like Run, Forrest Run for Tom Hanks

I can relate to this, except substitute Mick Dundee for Forrest and Outback Steakhouse/Fosters for Bubba Gump Shrimp. Also as of 5 years ago Iowa also does the paper temporary drivers license.

Yeah but imagine if Crocodile Dundee had won Best Picture! Or if Outback Steakhouse had won a James Beard Award! I feel your pain, though.

There are far worse Southern characters in American media than Forrest (vis. the canon of Tennessee Williams) for the area to be represented by, so I'm thankful that I can use him as an example of the fact that moral and ethical people (if somewhat blinded by idealism) also come out of there.

Very true. It's definitely an idealistic view of Southerners, but there are far worse things to be.

Great write up of a film that I (born and raised in Georgia) have hated since I saw it in theaters. Utter boomer trash. LOL

Even though I don't mind it, I can't exactly disagree. 😂
