Paraguay is a nation, not an ethnic population. There are Paraguayan whiteys just like there are Irish Mexicans.
Jon Voight was much better as a Paraguayan than Daniel Craig was as a Cajun Texan, or whatever it is he thought he was doing in Knives Out.
Not only that, Anaconda was much better than Knives Out. A joke of a movie, but a funny one. Not even close to being a classic like Mothra, but I'd watch it again, mostly for Jennifer Lopez.
Anaconda fans will also enjoy Lake Placid. Supposedly set in Maine, although to their credit none of the actuhs try to assume a Down East accent.
I actually really dig Craig's accent work. I think he does a good Kentucky/Virginia drawl in Knives Out, but he's even better as Joe Bang in Logan Lucky.
I think that drawl needs work. He's no Meryl Streep. It's sorta like that woman on the TV series The Closer, with a Southern accent that is not placeable to anywhere I know about.
I'll tell you who's good with an accent: Kelly Reilly, in Yellowstone. Montana-California Cosmopolitan. I had no idea that she was from England. Same with Hugh Laurie, in House.
I can't think of any male American actors who can pull off a British accent. Although I do I have a friend--haven't seen in many years--who could have been an actor, if he wasn't such an erratic personality. Man of 1000 voices: Keith Moon. Pope John Paul II. Jim Jones. Truman Capote. A 22-year old Korean Moonie girl. Robert Downey Jr., Etc. Dude had crazy talent, but no discipline.
Yellowstone was the show that introduced my to her work, but I found out that Kelly Reilly has been around for quite a while. I just saw her in the 2023 A Haunting In Venice, a film which is not mediocre at all. Adapted from an Agatha Christie story by Kenneth Branagh, featuring Branagh as Hercule Poirot. The third in a series. Now I’m interested in seeing the others.
Couldn't agree more about all of this about except this: "It belongs to 1997, a time when America’s first Black president was enjoying a second term in office." Seriously? Check your dates.
They don't let people use spray tan anymore.
"Oh, they don't?" [said like Jon Voigt, while running his hand down his cheek]
You'll be happy to know that in my family, we all say "they don't?" while running the hand down the cheek in multiple situations.
They don't allow dogs in that hotel.
Oh, they don't? [while the back of the hand runs down the cheek]
Glad to hear this film had such a lasting impact on you! 😂
Who's "we"?
You right.

Oh yeah, Kelly Reilly is a fantastic actor. Underrated! I'm hopeful that she'll be getting some bigger parts in the near future.

She's great in Eden Lake! I think that's the earliest thing I've seen her in.
