A fun read - Waterworld looms large in my mind and holds way too much space. It is consistently intriguing to me. Especially how it sets up strong and then the bottom completely falls out mid-way through like an undercooked pot pie. I will think about this movie at least once a week until the day I die. And for that, I have to commend Costner.
I feel like you have to factor assists in there, because for the first 2/3rds of that movie, it's Robert Duvall's, and he's going hard in the paint, baby.
First of all, 'The Count of Monte Cristo' is highly underrated. It's a really great movie. Second, there has to be a behind-the-scenes book on the Waterworld production. If so, I want to read it.
I know people like to pile on Jim Caviezel (for very good reasons) but he is a real drag on that Monte Cristo adaptation. He's so easily outpaced by Guy Pearce's contemptuous scumbag villain. And the highlight is Luis Guzman's hilariously contemporary supporting role - there's a great bit where he's like WE'RE RICH! What will you buy?? and Caviezel is like REVENGE and Guzman is like, well, I was thinking we could buy stupid things no?
Also, Henry Cavill as Caviezel's son - of course Jesus is going to sire Superman.
Oh, you could easily fill a whole book with stories from that production! Looks like the Arrow 4K/Blu-ray release has some cool special features along those lines too.
A very fun read. I’ll defend Waterworld. I thought it was pretty good when I saw it back when I was a teenager.
We were the perfect age to see it back then. Old enough to appreciate the spectacle and the world-building, young enough to ignore the flaws.
Hehe. That’s a great way to put it! Very accurate!

Oh for sure. He's one of the most commendable guys in the business. I even feel kinda bad for skipping Horizon. 😂
My husband watched it and asked me if I wanted to… I said “I’m good!” 👀
I have heard...mixed reviews. (Plus, if there's a chance he's not gonna finish parts 3 and 4, why bother?)
Now go watch the three hour cut lol
Also, I watched Horizon opening weekend! lol No regrets. Fun dad pilot
Also also, you gotta cover The Postman one day lol. One of those “ok heat check is cold but I’ll shoot my way out of the slump” backfires.
I am rather curious about The Postman given that he'd already gone cold by then. But shooters keep shooting, and the shots fell again with Open Range!
Open Range was like when your guy goes 18/25 at Charlotte on a Wednesday afternoon. Awesome but nobody saw it 😢
You know the Hornets announcers were going wild though. 😂
We need these guys in the playoffs

The NBA content we truly deserve.

Duvall was born to be in Westerns.
The score by James Newton Howard has some gorgeous moments:

Agreed! Really lovely music throughout. Does a lot of heavy lifting to help create the world.
I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, but it’s probably time for a revisit.
That was the case for me too. I think I was 13 or 14 the last time I saw it before this rewatch.

I hadn't even considered that about Cavill. 😂

"Kevin's Gate" slays me
That and "Fishtar" had me howling!
