Here's a Review I Wrote About George A. Romero's The Amusement Park (1973)
I decided to cheat this week. (It’s my newsletter, I can do what I want.)
You see, I’ve been writing these things at the last minute for a few weeks now, and it’s been okay. But this week, I also had to write a review of a new film for Modern Horrors, a website where I occasionally write things about horror movies in a more formal manner.
But at this website, much like essentially every film website, we only review new films. And because this newsletter is dedicated to the films of the VHS era and earlier, new releases don’t count.
However! I found a loophole. I reviewed a film that is being released next week for the first time...but it’s not a “new” film. It’s a recently unearthed lost film from genre legend George A. Romero, and it was shot in 1973 before being shelved. So it absolutely counts. (Again, my newsletter, my rules.)
So please, in lieu of my standard screed of cinema nonsense, consider heading to Modern Horrors to read my review of The Amusement Park, and then see it for yourself! It’s a really engrossing film with a really interesting story of how it got made. (And it’s only 53 minutes!)
I’ll be back next week with something popular that all of you have seen, I promise.
The Amusement Park is currently in theaters (like the Sidewalk Film Center & Cinema in Birmingham) and will be available on Shudder beginning Tuesday, June 8.
