That’s right, reader. I’m creeping into your inbox twice this week, because this is news worth sharing. And an event worth attending if you can make it! If you can’t, well, it’s never a bad time to watch Gremlins in the comfort of your own home.
Can you believe that Gremlins is almost 40 years old? Feels like just yesterday that Joe Dante, Chris Columbus, and Steven Spielberg joined forces to bless us with this creepy little holiday classic.
If you love Gremlins as much as I do, and you live in or near Birmingham, you’re in for a real treat.* Because on Friday, December 15th, leading man Zach Galligan will be at the Sidewalk Cinema for special Gremlins screenings followed by Q&As! And wouldn’t you know it, the Sidewalk team was kind enough to ask me to interview Zach. (How cool is that?)
Tickets sold out in about three days for the 7:00 screening, which is pretty outstanding. (Good job, Birmingham!) But because Sidewalk is for the people and Zach is a real one, they added a 10:00 screening for the same night! Get your tickets before both screenings sell out!
If you’ve been a Dust On The VCR subscriber since year one, you may recall that I’ve actually written about Gremlins already, specifically about how the middle school science teacher acts extremely irresponsibly in the film.** Also, my sister let me show my nieces Gremlins a few years ago for their first ever horror movie viewing. So this is a special film for me, and I can’t wait to add a new chapter to my own personal Gremlins saga.
By the way, if you’re still shopping for gifts, why not treat your movie-loving loved ones with a year-long membership to the Sidewalk Cinema or passes to next year’s Sidewalk Film Festival? Your support will help them continue to program more great films and bring more great actors to town for me to interview.
I hope to see some of y’all there with your nicest holiday sweater on!
*Atlanta people: Zach will be at The Tara this Saturday for a Gremlins screening as well! I won’t be the one interviewing him, though, so it won’t be as good.
**Glynn Turman is not scheduled to appear at this screening, but I can’t guarantee he won’t be there.
I’m only going if you wear the Gizmo costume that Sidewalk has
